The Kentucky State Chapter of the RINO Removal Project is committed to identifying and hallenging Republicans In Name Only (RINOs) who stray from the core Conservative Values that define the Commonwealth. Kentucky boasts a proud tradition of Republican strength, but too often, entrenched politicians prioritize personal interests over the principles of limited government, fiscal discipline, and individual freedom. Our mission is to hold these leaders accountable, promote authentic conservative candidates, and ensure Kentucky’s GOP reflects the values of its people. Join us in our fight to restore integrity to the Republican Party in the Bluegrass State. After all, Kentucky is Unbridled in its pursuit of liberty.
The Kentucky Chapter stands firm, blending the spirit of conservative resolve with the fight for true Republican principles.
Top Issues from a RINO-Critical Standpoint in Kentucky
Below are five key issues framed from the perspective of those labeling certain Kentucky Republicans as Republicans In Name Only (RINOs), reflecting tensions between establishment Republicans and grassroots conservatives in the Commonwealth:
Insufficient Loyalty to Trump’s Agenda Critics of RINOs in Kentucky, particularly targeting figures like Sen. Mitch McConnell, Rep. Thomas Massie, and Sen. Rand Paul, argue they fail to fully align with President Donald Trump’s policies. For instance, McConnell’s support for foreign aid to Ukraine and Israel, along with his recruitment of candidates with broader appeal, has drawn accusations of being a “Super RINO” from Trump allies like Matt Gaetz. Massie’s vocal opposition to Trump’s tax-and-border bill and Paul’s resistance to deficit spending and tariffs are seen as disloyalty to the America First agenda. From a RINO-critical standpoint, these actions prioritize globalist or traditional conservative interests over Trump’s populist vision, a major point of contention in a state where Trump won 64.6% of the vote in 2024.
Weak Stance on Second Amendment Rights In Kentucky, some Republicans are accused of being soft on gun rights, a critical litmus test for conservative voters. For example, challengers in the 2022 primaries, like Claire Wirth against Massie, claimed incumbents were insufficiently committed to defending gun ownership, despite Kentucky’s strong pro-gun culture. From a RINO-critical perspective, any hint of moderation or bipartisan cooperation on gun-related legislation is viewed as a betrayal, particularly in a state with a robust hunting and sportsman tradition.
Failure to Prioritize Border Security, Immigration and border security are top concerns for conservative voters in Kentucky. Figures like Massie have been criticized for not fully supporting Trump’s border wall or aggressive immigration policies. Challengers argue that establishment Republicans prioritize corporate interests over securing the border, a stance seen as out of touch with Kentucky’s growing Republican base. This issue carries weight in a state increasingly sensitive to national debates on illegal immigration, where voters demand stricter enforcement.
Moderation on Cultural and Social Issues RINO critics often target Kentucky Republicans who appear to compromise on cultural issues such as education policy, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives, or abortion. For instance, the defeat of Amendment 2 in 2024, which would have allowed public funds for nonpublic education, was partly due to opposition from some Republicans, viewed as RINOs for not fully supporting school choice. Additionally, state legislators who voted with Democrats on bills eliminating DEI in public universities, like Sen. Robin Webb before her party switch, faced scrutiny for not being conservative enough. Critics argue these Republicans weaken the party’s stance against progressive cultural shifts.
